Jean-Michel Dumont
EVP & Managing Director, North Asia
A French national, Jean-Michel has been based in Greater China since 1986. He joined Ruder Finn in 2001 after over 12 years with Edelman China where he last held the position of Managing Director of the Shanghai office. Since, he has developed Ruder Finn to become the third biggest international PR agency in the market and a leader in several areas including automotive, healthcare and culture.
His experience in China covers a wide spectrum of the Public Relations practices. In the field of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs, he was involved on accounts such as the Beijing 2000 Olympic Bid Committee, Finnish Foreign Trade Association, France '95 Consumer Exhibition and France'97 Hi-tech Exhibition. He was also involved in the Britain In China campaign in Shanghai, whilst in the Consumer area, Jean-Michel was involved in the launches and positioning for Louis Vuitton and Vidal Sassoon (Procter & Gamble) to name a few and has been involved for the last four years in the repositioning of Audi in the China market.
Over the past sixteen years, Jean-Michel briefly left the Mainland to gain experience in Hong Kong. As manager for a graphic design company, Pacific Promotions Ltd., he was involved in the creation of the Asian corporate identity of the Hong Kong French Trade Commission. In 1992, he joined Format Ltd., then Hong Kong production arm of Burson-Marsteller, handling all corporate production for clients such as Cathay Pacific Airways, The Hong Kong Provisional Airport Authority, Swire and Hong Kong Tourist Association. Jean-Michel rejoined Edelman in April 1995.
With eighteen years experience in communications in Asia, Jean-Michel has a thorough understanding of how to create and implement image building programs in the region.
Jean-Michel is fluent in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese, and has a working knowledge of Mandarin, Italian and Indonesian.
